2019年7月23日 · J/29 on a breezy reach pushes the autopilot to its limits. This drains the battery quicker, not to mention the shortened life of these relatively poorly manufactured devices. Sometimes the unbalanced rudder requires so much force that the autopilot just can’t handle. This results in the boat rounding up especially when the breeze is up.

2007年6月8日 · Some folks have gone so far to modify the rudder, but this is a DSQ for class-racing. If you are primarily going to be club racing with crew, the J-29 would probably be the better choice (this boat likes meat on the rail).

2019年7月25日 · Rudder Craft specializes in replacement transom hung rudders. Their web site lists rudders for numerous models with pictures of actual rudders they produced. J29/J30 rudder is listed, and they also offer balanced rudder for J/29. J/29 Balanced Rudder listed on Rudder Craft site, price as of July 2019. Rudder Craft website is pretty good.

The large transom and rudder help to hide the engine. The only time it has to be stored below is before a race, when there’s usually plenty of help around ... who’d rather do this than dive into cold water to band a prop.
