The GER Class C53 was a class of twelve 0-6-0 T steam tram locomotives designed by James Holden for the Great Eastern Railway. They passed to the London and North Eastern Railway at the grouping, and received the LNER classification J70.

Five of the inherited 0-6-0Ts were crane tanks, and twelve were tram locomotives. The LNER perpetuated existing designs with 82 new locos before purchasing 75 locos to the War Department design of 1942. Meanwhile 17 pre-Grouping 0-6-0Ts were acquired post-Grouping, principally the Midland & Great Northern (M&GN).

It was used mainly for locomotives intended for freight, branch, and shunting work. If any single type epitomises the British steam locomotive from the mid-19th Century, it is the inside-cylinder 0-6-0 tender loco.
