The Shenyang J-8 (Chinese: 歼-8; NATO reporting name: Finback) is a family of interceptor aircraft developed by the 601 Institute (Shenyang) in the People's Republic of China (PRC). It was conceived in the early 1960s as a low-risk program based on enlarging the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 F, a version of which the PRC was producing as the Chengdu J-7.

Its specification called for Mach=2.2 speed, a 200m/sec climb rate and a range of 1500km on internal fuel. Featuring a thin-section 60 delta wing and employing much MiG technology, the J-8 was powered by two Chengdu WP-7A turbojets (Tumansky R-11s) of 5100kg with afterburning.
