The Mitsubishi T-2 was a supersonic jet trainer aircraft used by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. Introduced in 1975, it was the first Japanese-designed aircraft to break the sound barrier. It was the basis of the Mitsubishi F-1 strike fighter. All T-2s were retired by 2006.

It is a two-shaft low bypass turbofan engine with a two-stage LP five-stage HP compressor and single-stage LP single-stage HP turbine. It produces a maximum dry thrust of 4,705 lbf and an afterburning thrust of 7,140 lbf each. The T-2 has a maximum speed of 920 knots at 36,007 feet and a ferry range of 1,550 nautical miles with three drop tanks.

Six T-2(K)s were used by the JASDF "Blue Impulse" flight demonstration team, with the aircraft painted in spiffy dark blue / light blue / white colors, fitted with a multi-color smoke generator, and flown in formation aerobatics to wow the crowds.

On display at Gifu-Kakamigahara Air and Space Museum. The T-2 was influenced by the design of the SEPECAT Jaguar, as can be seen from this rear view. It was also powered by two Adour turbofans, licence built by Ishikawajima-Harima as the TF40-IHI-801A. Unlike the Jaguar, the T-2 had single wheels.
