Acquire the 4344 and discover for yourself. I could be wrong but the 4344 was destined for the Japanese market (thats where most of the production went) so you won't read much about the stock 4344 (vintage) here. Try some of the Japanese online JBL traders for details of resale value.

The 4348 is a more contemporary JBL design voiced for the Japanese audiophile market.....fast articuate bass and a newer horn and super tweeter. You owe it to yourself to hop on a plane to Tokyo and hear the full range including the newer 4600.
JBL 4344 - General production speaker or niche market
However, I cannot seem to find any JBL pro documentation of the 4344 (not MKII) speaker. I can only find the 4343 and 4345 in the Library. Was the 4344 aimed specifically to the Japanese market? I am from Denmark, where we in the seventies had a global JBL stock, and there doesn't seem to be any remembrance of the 4344 speaker at all.

But for the purposes of naming conventions and to avoid confusion your project is a diy 4 way monitor based on the Jbl 4344 but it’s NOT a clone. Lastly if you have available a 2nd stereo power amp please consider Biamping with a stereo active crossover.
