Jul 20, 2010 · Jim, Both the L99 (S99) and the L55 sounded quite nice just as JBL produced them, but the LE14A didn't like being pushed to the 2KHz crossover, and the tweet didn't really do all that good there either. The 4412 was one of JBL's finest monitors. Using it's top end was a no brainer, and sure improved the sound of both cabinets.

I expected them to sound awfull after reading that the x-over frequency between the tweeter and the LE14a was at 2000hz !!!! Oct 21, 2018 · Picked up some lancer 55s today. My first JBL. I quite like them. I have some yamaha ns 500s which are nice too but I like these a bit more. I love that beryllium tweeter on the 500s though. I should get them off the ground though? Mine are pretty far apart. I will have to do some rearranging.

Jan 27, 2007 · L55 They have an LE14A and an LE20 tweeter. Nice sounding two ways. They are not bookshelf speakers like the L96. Hard to beat the LE14's LF ability in a head to head, but that is the only thing that an L55 has over the L96, and not by much. L96 is a more advanced design and all around better speaker than an L55 because of it.

May 16, 2016 · OK so how bout this, the L55's or a set of Pioneer HPM 100's? 2 very different sounding speakers. Each brand has its own fans and detractors, but those Pioneers were among the best sounding speakers that Pioneer ever made.

Apr 23, 2011 · Dropped my minty'ish HPM100's from the speaker stands and placed some L55's in their place. Just got the L55's tonight off Craigslist for a decent deal. They sound pretty good. So if I want to take things "to the next level", which way do I go? I'm very capable of building nice speaker enclosures and soldering crossovers.

Jan 2, 2009 · L55 is a early 1970s two-way vs. the early 80s 3 way. I listen primarily to Bop/Hardbop Jazz, some 70s rock, and a little classical. Right now I have some Advent Laureates which I find a little bass shy and harsh in the highs.
