JS Kongō (DDG-173) is a Kongō -class guided missile destroyer in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). Kongō is the third Japanese naval vessel named after Mount Kongō. She was laid down by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Nagasaki, Nagasaki on 8 May 1990.

The Kongō class (こんごう型護衛艦, Kongō-gata Goeikan) of guided-missile destroyers in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force are equipped with the Aegis Combat System, and is the first of few ship classes outside the United States to have that capability.

2018年8月8日 · JDS Kongo is classified as a "guided missile destroyer" which means she holds an advanced battery of missile weapons and the sensors/processing systems aboard. Her armament suite is also multi-purpose in that the warship can scan, track and engage aerial, surface, inland and underwater threats as needed - such is her design flexibility.

2019年1月19日 · The Kongō Class guided missile destroyers were built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and IHI Corporation for the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF). The destroyer is a modified version of the US Navy’s Arleigh Burke Class destroyer. The Escort Flotillas of JMSDF operate four vessels.
