James Jesus Angleton (December 9, 1917 – May 11, 1987) [1] was an American CIA officer who served as chief of the counterintelligence department of the Central Intelligence Agency from 1954 to 1975.

Perhaps one of the most well-known Agency figures is James Angleton. In particular, Angleton was noted for his work as the Chief of Counterintelligence during the Cold War.

In early 1951 James Jesus Angleton was appointed head of the CIA's newly created Special Operations Group. In this post Angleton served as the CIA's exclusive liaison with Israeli intelligence.
