C55型是C51、C54型的近代化改良型。 從1935年到1937年,汽車會社、三菱、川崎、日立等公司共生產了62輛。 另外用于臺灣鐵路的編號為 CT250型蒸汽機車。 第二次型C5520-C5540的設計是當時流行的流線型。 因維修不便1950年改造為標準型。 1975年全部停駛。
