The Class D61 (D61形, D61-gata) is a class of six 2-8-4 steam locomotive built by the Japanese National Railways (JNR) in 1960 and 1961. They were redesigned by Hideo Shima, and rebuilt at JNR Hamamatsu Works and Kōriyama Works .

The JNR Class D61 is a 2-8-4 Berkshire-type steam locomotive built for the JNR from 1959 to 1961. The D61s were introduced to replace the older JNR Class 9600 steam locomotives from 1959.

Between 1959 and 1961, 6 were built at the Hamamatsu and Koriyama factories of Japan National Railways. This became the last Japan National Railways (JNR) steam locomotive.
