My research focuses on the science, technology, and economics of emerging solar photovoltaic (PV) technologies based on thin-film absorbers, including perovskites, organics, and quantum dots (QDs). Emerging thin-film PV technologies provide new functionality today and could reshape the solar landscape tomorrow.

2020年5月20日 · Joel Jean PhD ’17 spent two years working on The Future of Solar Energy, a report published by the MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI) in 2015. Today, he is striving to create that future as CEO of Swift Solar, a startup that is developing lightweight solar panels based on perovskite semiconductors.

Joel Jean has a Ph.D. from the MIT Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. His research with Vladimir Bulović in the MIT Organic and Nanostructured Electronics Laboratory (ONE Lab) focused on device physics and design of lightweight, flexible, and low-cost solar cells based on colloidal quantum dots and molecular semiconductors.

Joel is above all an advocate for climate change action, likes running marathons, and buys new books faster than he can read them. Before co-founding Swift, Joel served as Executive Director of the Tata-MIT GridEdge Solar research program, which focuses on the scale-up of new solar photovoltaic technologies for India and other developing countries.
