Curiously mellow for a John Carpenter thriller, Village of the Damned, a full-color, cornball special-effects remake of the 1960 sci-fi favorite, is a trip to a village of the darned tedious.

It was adapted for the screen by screenwriters Stirling Silliphant, Wolf Rilla, and Ronald Kinnoch (as George Barclay). A sequel-of-sorts, Children of the Damned (1964), was released in 1963, and John Carpenter remade Village of the Damned (1995) in 1995.

John Carpenter invited Wolf Rilla, the director of the original version of "Village of the Damned (1960)," to the set. Rilla obliged and visited the set with his wife.

John Carpentsr's "The Village of the Damned" is an interesting remake of the 1960 masterpiece. The storyline is basically the same but with state-of-art special effects. The creepy and dark conclusion fits well to the plot.
