John Flaxman RA (6 July 1755 – 7 December 1826) was a British sculptor and draughtsman, and a leading figure in British and European Neoclassicism. Early in his career, he worked as a modeller for Josiah Wedgwood 's pottery. He spent several years in Rome, where he produced his first book illustrations.

John Flaxman was a leading sculptor, designer and draughtsman working in the neoclassical style. Born in York, he grew up in London where he studied sculpture at the Royal Academy Schools from 1769. There, he became close friends with William Blake and Thomas Stothard.

He was the son of a moulder of plaster figures, and after studying at the Royal Academy Schools (where he met his lifelong friend William Blake) he worked for the potter Josiah Wedgwood from 1775 to 1787.
