John Iliffe (born 1 May 1939) is a British historian, specialising in the history of Africa and especially Tanzania. He was Professor of African History at the University of Cambridge and fellow of St John's College, Cambridge .

John Iliffe is Professor of African History. His main books include Africans: the history of a continent (1995) and Honour in African history (2005). He is presently researching and writing a history of the African AIDS epidemic.
