Johnny Crawford is well known for his portrayal of Mark McCain, the young son of Lucas McCain (Chuck Connors) in the television western The Rifleman (1958-1963). While that role brought him to prominence in the homes of America, Johnny also made his mark in the music world.

Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum has announced both an in person and online celebration of Johnny Crawford! A variety of unique experiences include seeing Johnny on the big screen at the Edison Theater, a historic former nickelodeon located in Fremont, CA.

TRUE ORIGINS - Johnny Crawford Legacy
But now new research reveals the series origins were not quite so fictional after all. Nor was the locale or central characters of Lucas and Mark McCain as portrayed by Chuck Connors and Johnny Crawford. Rather they were inspired by an authentic town, its residents and a time period steeped in memories for the show’s creator, Sam Peckinpah.
Army Life - Johnny Crawford Legacy
Johnny Crawford served in the US Army from December 1965 to December 1967. After Basic Training in Fort Bliss, Texas, he was assigned to the Army Pictorial Center in New York, working on the production of training films.
