2024年2月23日 · Hi, we have a lean to extension with 2 knock throughs with 2.5m beams holding up the original rear house wall. The gap between them is 2.5m , currently a brick pier. Is it possible to join them and get rid of the brick pier? thanks. Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

2012年3月24日 · SE has said that the beam connecting the two will have to be joined by the web of the existing one because of the load so will have to be boxed round under the celing height. This is the main thing that I did not want and wanted the joining beam to sit across the top of the other 2 in the celing void.

2013年1月21日 · For an 8"+ deep beam, you can use two pieces of angle bolted to each side of the incoming web, and then to the main beam. But this means more cutting and drilling. see back-of-envelope sketch, For shallower beams (6" - 7" deep top-to-bottom) that is the only practicable way of getting them flush.

2019年1月31日 · Here's a plan view (A4, 1:100 scale) of the house. I've put a proposed 2 x RSJ 4.6m long in the loft. Before sending this to a structural engineer I'd like to get (free!) advice on how a 4.6m RSJ could be put into the loft. I could split each 4.6m RSJ into 2 x 2.3m RSJs and use adapters to connect the centres. Any thoughts please?
