Joseph Yam Chi-kwong, GBM, GBS, CBE, JP (任志剛; born 1948, Hong Kong) [2][3] is a Hong Kong statistician, economist and civil servant. He was the first Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Hong Kong's de facto central bank, holding the position for 16 years.

2025年1月6日 · The Honourable Joseph YAM Chi-kwong, GBM, GBS, JP Aged 75. Mr Yam is currently Member of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited and Distinguished Research Fellow and Member of the Management Committee of the Lau Chor Tak Institute of Global Economics and Finance at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Professor Joseph Yam joined the Lau Chor Tak Institute of Global Economics and Finance as Distinguished Research Fellow on 1 April 2010. He is also the Honorary Professor of the Business School, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Professor Joseph Yam is the founder of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA). He served as Chief Executive of the HKMA for over sixteen years before retiring in September 2009. Professor Yam is currently Executive Vice President of the China Society for Finance and Banking, a society managed by the People’s Bank of China.

Mr Joseph Yam Chi Kwong has served as Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority since its establishment in April 1993. Mr Yam received his Bachelor of Social Sciences degree, majoring in Economics and Statistics, from HKU in 1970. He started his civil service career in Hong Kong as a Statistician in 1971, and became an Economist in 1976.

Mr Joseph Yam was the first Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, an organization that he created and headed for sixteen and a half years. After retiring from that post in September 2009, Mr Yam has taken up a number of appointments.

Joseph Yam studied sixth form at St. Paul’s College from 1965 to 1967. A statistician and economist, Yam joined the civil service in 1971 and was appointed deputy secretary for monetary affairs by 1985.
