The four kaons are: K− , negatively charged (containing a strange quark and an up antiquark) has mass 493.677 ± 0.013 MeV and mean lifetime (1.2380 ± 0.0020) × 10−8 s. K+ (antiparticle of above) positively charged (containing an up quark and a strange antiquark) must (by CPT invariance) have mass and lifetime equal to that of K− .
Kaon - Basic Theory
Kaons are mesons formed by a strange (or anti-strange) quark and an up or down quark. They have strangeness of ± 1. Both charged kaons (K +, K -) and neutral kaons (K 0, 0) exist. These neutral kaons are distinguished by their strangeness: S (K 0)=1, S (0)=-1. The neutral kaons offer a very interesting subject for studying.
