I would advise to get a site at the very far end down below on the far end of the dirt road just above Santa Paula Creek below. That would be site 9 or 10 I believe. That way large(oak) trees provide shade throughout the day. We were on site 8 and the sun was harsh in the afternoon. You will hear the nice sound of the creek running below.

If you have kids, bring their bikes or razor scooters to get to the fun area (jumping pillow, etc. ) bring your swimsuit bc the pol should be open, they said Memorial Day weekend when we were there. Charcoal and lighter fluid for grilling, extra blanket for the kids that sleep on the foldable bed that's away from the heater, sun screen, food and drinks, trash bags, plates, portable stove and mini propane tank if you have one (we used it to make pancakes, scrambled eggs, etc.

No it is not too cold to tent camp there in mid-April. We tent camped in early April and did fine. Your sleeping bag temperature rating should be about 40 degrees to be comfortable. This area does not get much colder than that at night because of the ocean proximity keeps temperatures from getting too cold.

That all depends on the area that you choose, and the $ you want to spend. For a little over 400 US$ you don't bring the tent. but in my opinion, you don"t get what you paid for. If you want to bring the tent, you save the $ and you wont have to contact them that often, since you are prepared. By the way, their office/market is a thumbs down. As an office it is, but the prices and the items of the market stank. For example, they had WAY past expiration date coffee powdered creamers, and it didn't phase them.
