The location of Kanoni with the church of Panagia Vlacherna below and the Mouse Island (Pontikonisi) are the most famous and photographed spots of Corfu. Kanoni is actually a district of Corfu Town, just a couple of kilometers from the city center. It took its name from an old cannon that stands on top of the hill.

The village of Kanoni is located on Corfu and lies on the homonymous peninsula, 5 kilometres south of Corfu town. Kanoni is a busy tourist resort, there are many hotels, apartments, restaurants, souvenir shops and bars.

The Kanoni site lies to the south of Palaeopolis. It is said that it took its name from the establishment of two French cannon there in 1798. One cannon from that battery still survives. Just below Kanoni there is the Monastery of Vlachernae, dating to the 1600s.
