Kapton Tape, how I use it and it's advantages. | Badger & Blade
2018年1月18日 · Before I found Kapton I was changing tape like everyone else during bevel setting every 40 - 75 strokes or so to keep my tolerances tight especially in the bevel setting stage, and I always change tape when switching stones. 3M wears slower than the other brands of black electrical tape and it is high quality, but Kapton wears slower than any ...
Kapton Tape. Any real Advantage? - Badger & Blade
2019年8月29日 · I often use Kapton, though one of the hassles of using it is it that it has zero stretch, so it will not conform smoothly to a smiling spine. I let the loop of tape form a straight tube behind the spine and just make sure that the tape is smooth on the contact point of the spine on both sides. So yes, electrical tape is a lot easier to apply.
Honing bevel with tape but no tape at finishing stone.
2024年2月12日 · Tape the spine with Kapton, thinner and stronger than electrical, a 4,5, 8 or even a 12k can reset a bevel once the bevels are flat. A 4-5k should only take about 40 or so laps to cut new bevels. You also can fully set a bevel with a 1k and reset the bevels with a 4k and polish with an 8 and 12, without removing much steel from the spine, if ...
The Scandal Sheet: Straights and other stuff - Badger & Blade
2024年1月2日 · I use a lot of Kapton tape at work in all kinds of thicknesses. Fantastic electrical insulator. I think we have 1, 2, 5 and 10 mil tape in the lab. I love using the 1 mil for honing. It's relatively tough, although a 1k stone will burn through it …
Joseph Rodgers 'Star and Cross' microtome.. purchased in error!
2023年7月15日 · I used Kapton tape both sides, so as to put a miniscule bevel on the flat and use close to the original bevel angle on the front. Made sure it was cutting arm hair at 1K before proceeding, popping hairs at 12K very nicely now. Will see how this shaves before doing anything else. Suehiro 1K/3K, Shapton 8K, Naniwa SS 12K:
To tape or not to tape, that is the question. | Badger & Blade
2019年1月17日 · You don't want the tape gumming up the balsa. Here you might possibly paste a hanging strop but I abhor this practice myself and never do it. No reason you can't except that Slash says that sucks. Some honers are switching to Kapton tape from vinyl, with good results. MOST razors should NOT be honed with tape. If you don't know, don't use it.
What did you hone today? | Page 702 | Badger & Blade
2011年1月31日 · Did two today. Wade & Butcher 6/8 and Red Imp 133 (Ludo). I used the same progression as yesterday - kill edge, kapton tape on spine, 3k Ouka bevel set, 5k Rika, 8k King Gold and then Jnats. Kiita for the W&B, asagi for the Red Imp. I keep alternating the finishing Jnats to learn their differences and capabilities. They're both excellent finishers.
Any info on this Imperial Warrented razor? - Badger & Blade
2021年2月22日 · Sounds good and you learned some. Go ahead and use some 3m electrical tape next time. Don’t go lifting the spine and start that bad habit. Sort of self defeating to use a thin kapton tape (this so keeps spine close to stone) and then lift the razor. Anyway you just don’t want to be doing that.
Hone with tape or without - Badger & Blade
2017年8月11日 · No tape for me, normally. I tape fancy spines, historic razors, and frame backs with 1 layer of 1 mil DuPont Kapton. Tape is a tool, I use it when it's needed. Another site recommends that new honers always tape to avoid spine wear.
Juuma Cobalt Blue - How to hone Yasuki/Hitachi Steel
2023年9月18日 · To fix this habit, I had to back way off on the pressure I was using, and then very gently torque the razor as I was honing, twisting it along the handle axis to gently favor the edge over the spine. Having to change your tape 4-5 times to set a bevel seems like a sure sign of excessive pressure on the spine relative to the bevel.
