Kaub (German pronunciation: ⓘ; old spelling: Caub) is a town in Germany, state Rhineland-Palatinate, district Rhein-Lahn-Kreis. It is part of the municipality (Verbandsgemeinde) Loreley. It is located on the right bank of the Rhine, approx. 50 km west from Wiesbaden. It is connected to Wiesbaden and Koblenz by railway.

Pfalzgrafenstein Castle (German: Burg Pfalzgrafenstein) is a toll castle situated on Falkenau island in the Rhine River, adjacent to Kaub, Germany. Also known as "the Pfalz", Pfalzgrafenstein Castle has never been destroyed since being established in 1326/27.

Kaub became famous by the Prussian general Blücher on New Year's Night in 1813/1814. General Blücher and his 60.000 soldiers with 20.000 horses crossed the Rhine with the aid of the pilots from Kaub and a pontoon bridge, to drive Napoleon out of Germany. The impressive monument to Blücher evocates that Rhine crossing.

Innerhalb der Befreiungskriege gegen die Herrschaft Napoleons überschritt am Neujahrstag 1814 das Heer General Blüchers bei Kaub den Rhein. Maßgebliche Hilfe leisteten dabei die seit Jahrhunderten in Kaub beheimateten Rheinlotsen, die Schiffe durch die gefährliche Strecke zwischen Kaub und Bingen führten.
