Malabari is a breed of medium-sized goats seen widely in the northern districts of Kerala. They are known to be well-adapted to the hot humid conditions of the State. According to rough estimates, majority of the goat population of the State belonged to the Malabari variety.

Malabari goats are one among the recognized breeds of goats in India and are widely distributed in the Malabar region of Kerala and also reared in different places of Tamil Nadu. They inhabit the Calicut, Kannur, Waynad, and Malappuram districts of Kerala, India. Malabari goats are sometimes called Tellicherry goats.

The major proportion of the goat population in Kerala belong to Malabari breed and is well adapted to the agro-climatic conditions of the State. As a part of the diversification programme, the Board, during the year 1990-91, started a pilot project on goats at Kulathupuzha.
