The Kete, established between the Luba and the Songye, have intermingled with the Kuba and the Tschokwe and derive their subsistence from hunting, net fishing, and agriculture. Their matrilineal society worships nature spirits called mungitchi through offerings and incantations.

The Kete are one of many ethnic groups that make up the Kuba kingdom in the southwest of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The king is always from the Bushong group. Regarding their traditional artistic production, the Kete used masks during funerals and male initiation ceremonies, during which three male masks and three female masks were worn.

The Kete people are skilled artisans, known for their exquisite carvings linked to initiation ceremonies and distinctive helmet masks akin to the iconic Bushoong Bwoon mask, featuring striking conical eyes.
