Khayal were natural users of shadow magic, being capable of using the black candle fundamental and pass into shadow mystery at will, as well as the dusk and dawn and sight eclipsed mysteries thrice each day, the bolster mystery twice each day, and the umbral body mystery once each day.

The khayal are a species of genie tied to the plane of shadow. Said to be created from the absence of elements, they are the rivals of the jann (who were created with all four). Arrogant and proud, the khayal happily decieve the "lesser races," making an art of lying and trickery.
