Before 1949 the KMZ logo was a simple dove prism, nicknamed "tomb" by factory workers. In 1949 the logo was changed to the present form, depicting a prism with a refracted ray of light.

The KMZ logo has changed quite a few times over the years. The original logo, that was used when the factory was started in 1942, consisted of a simple dove prism. In 1949 a refracted light ray, with an open arrow at the end, was added to the prism. At some point, probably around 1970 the open arrow was replaced by a closed arrow.

Krasnogorsky Mekhanichesky Zavod KMZ (Красногорский механический завод = Mechanical Factory of Krasnogorsk), near Moscow. KMZ is known largely for its cameras, including the Iskra, Kristall, Mir, Moskva , Start, Zenith (early series), Zorki series and some others. Some of these were produced in the millions.

2024年8月6日 · A little later it produced cameras termed "FED–Zorki" by later collectors: cameras engraved both with the name FED and with the KMZ emblem. By 1949 it made some design changes, and thus production of the Zorki began. In 1952, KMZ created an SLR based on the Zorki, and thus the Zenit was born.

The first logo, used till 1962, represents an optical bloc, made from 3 lenses. Be careful to not mix up with the MMZ logo (see underneath). The second logo is a stylised eye with a light ray through it. Why an eye? Just because since 1962, they got specialised to ophthalmic stuffs.
