The Wawel Cathedral (Polish: Katedra Wawelska), formally titled the Archcathedral Basilica of Saint Stanislaus and Saint Wenceslaus, (Polish: Bazylika archikatedralna św. Stanisława i św. Wacława) is a Catholic cathedral situated on Wawel Hill in Kraków, Poland.

Wawel Cathedral sits in the heart of the royal palace and castle complex that dominates the hill of the same name, on the south side of Kraków’s Old Town. It’s a magnificent, perhaps the most magnificent, example of medieval Polish cathedral architecture, imbued inside with the rich artistic flair of Renaissance Europe.

The Wawel Cathedral, Katedra Wawelska in Polish, was the coronation site of Polish monarchs and remains Poland's most important national sanctuary. The remaining royal tombs are in crypts built in the 16th century, and later connected with the relics of the Romanesque cathedral under the current one. Visiting this section of the cathedral complex begins in the Crypt of St Leonard, where the ashes of the national heroes Prince Józef Poniatowsk and Tadeusz Kościuszko were deposited.

The fourteenth-century Wawel Cathedral (Katedra Wawelska), also known as Kraków Cathedral, is one of the most sacred temples in Poland. It represents an important testimony of the nation’s history. Wawel Cathedral, located on Wawel Hill, has been standing for nearly 1,000 years and since its foundation, is the country’s national sanctuary.

The central place in the Cathedral is occupied by the confession of the most important figure among Cracow bishops – St Stanislaus, bishop and martyr, the patron saint of Wawel Cathedral and of the Polish State.
