The Carro Veloce 33 (CV 33) or L3/33 was a tankette originally built in 1933 and used by the Italian Army before and during World War II. It was based on the imported British Carden Loyd tankette (license-built by Italy as the CV 29). Many CV 33s were retrofitted to meet the specifications of the CV 35 in 1935.

The L3/33 CC (“CC” stands for “Contro Carro”, or antitank version) was an adaptation of the elderly CV33s of the “Centauro” division, which arrived in Libya too late, missing El Alamein. However, under Kesselring and Rommel, they performed a good fighting retreat into Tunisia.

2019年10月19日 · The CV 33 also had high mobility. The CV 35 was a continuation of this design with improved armament. The Italians built over 2000 tankettes of all types. In 1938 they were reclassified as Carro L3 light tanks. The CV 33 became the L3-33 and CV 35 - L3-35.

It was heavy, cumbersome and had a huge recoil, but a far better muzzle velocity than the British Boys, and were able to pierce armor up to 35 mm (1.38 mm). As a result, many L3s were successfully converted as antitank platforms.
