The M26 Pershing was a heavy tank/medium tank of the United States Army. The tank was named after General of the Armies John J. Pershing, who led the American Expeditionary Force in Europe in World War I. M26 was designed to be a replacement of the M4 Sherman against the Panther and Tiger tank. The most famous battle for a Pershing in WWII was the Tank Duel in Cologne and it successfully destroyed a Panther tank from Germany.
