Put simply, this is the best car we’ve seen all year. The Elf who found it would’ve got a hug if we could bring ourselves to. Still, we thought about it. Anyway, this absurdly brilliant creation is a ’70s MGB, and is as accurate in its Technical functions as it is aesthetically.

Developed by Williams Engineering, the Metro 6R4 gained a mid-mounted naturally-aspirated V6 engine, loosely developed from the all-conquering Cosworth DVF Formula 1 unit, a glassfibre body, and MG badges – to better align it with the hot-hatch versions of the road-going Metro.

Fairly basic mechanicals were wrapped in tasteful Pininfarina bodywork what was to last for more than 30 years (at least the design, if not the rusty MGB). Four years later, Pininfarina also styled the MGB GT Coupe. A liftback design that increased the utility as well as the weather-proofing.
