
PRR MP70 - Wikipedia
The PRR MP70, also known informally as the "double-deckers", was a class of electric multiple units manufactured by the Pennsylvania Railroad for use on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). The Pennsylvania Railroad manufactured three prototypes in the 1930s and a full fleet of sixty cars in 1947–1949.

Votava double-decker prints show MP70A's with double numbers and Tuscan Red frames; later shots of MP70Bs show a single number centered in the middle of the car and aluminum (silver) window frames. I'd date the photo 1948 to 1950. Research: Mike Boland. Jamaica view east end of the platform in 1971. The double decker was on the west end.

Built in 1937, MP70 1347, originally a four-motor double-decker intended to operate as a "married pair" with CT70 201 (see photo below). This unit was the only double-decker with four motors and apparently was not given ASC in 1951, becoming a MP70T motor trailer.

2025年2月5日 · They were retired because they were MU-compatible with the old MP54 through MP75 fleet of EMUs but were not compatible with the M1s. I believe the LIRR had 63 of them, all homemade at Altoona, delivered in 1948, and based on the PRR balloon-roofed P-70 coach.
