The Ivatt Diesel Re-creation Society plan to recreate, and operate 10000, the first British mainline diesel electric locomotive. The original was scrapped in 1968, before the preservation movement had started to take notice of historically important diesel locomotives.

10000 and 10001 were prototype 1600hp diesels built at Derby Works. 10000 first ran in November 1947 and was put into regular service in February 1948. By the end of 1948 it was joined by sister 10001 and did extensive trials double headed for a combined output of 3200hp. It was withdrawn in 1963 and finally cut up in 1968.
