The Pollitt F2 (GCR Class 9G) 2-4-2T Locomotives. Pollitt based his GCR Class 9G (LNER F2) 2-4-2T suburban tank design on the existing F1 2-4-2T design of Parker's. The Joy valve gear was replaced with Stephenson valve gear, and the cylinder stroke was increase to 26in (from 24in). Also, the F2s had Belpaire boilers fitted from new.

The H&BR Class F2 (LNER Class N12) was a class of 0-6-2T steam locomotives of the Hull and Barnsley Railway. [1] It was designed by Matthew Stirling and nine locomotives were built by Kitson & Co. in 1901.

The LNER 2-4-2 Locomotives. The 2-4-2T was adopted by many companies for local passenger work (and in at least one case for semi-fast duties). The LNER inherited 341 at Grouping (1923), and did not build any of its own. Due to the large numbers inherited from the Great Eastern Railway (GER), they outnumbered all other four-coupled tank designs.

The M.Stirling N12 (H&BR Class F2) 0-6-2T Locomotives. At the beginning of the 20th Century, the fortunes of the Hull & Barnsley Railway (H&BR) were improving and it found that it was very short of larger shunting locomotives.

The London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) Class V2 2-6-2 steam locomotives were designed by Sir Nigel Gresley for express mixed traffic work across the British railway network. They were built at the LNER workshops in Doncaster and Darlington between 1936 and 1944.

Locomotives of the Hull and Barnsley Railway. The Hull and Barnsley Railway never manufactured any of its own locomotives, all being built elsewhere. The first types in use were of the design W. Kirtley (Locomotive Superintendent of the London, Chatham and Dover Railway) who was acting as a consultant.

Four Class F3 0-6-2T (LNER N13) locomotives were built in 1913, followed by a further six during the next year. Nine of these engines survived to Nationalisation (1948). BR No. 69114 was the last H&BR locomotive working in the BR period. It was withdrawn from Leeds Neville Hill in 1956.
