
The T.W.Worsdell F4 and F5 (GER Class M15) 2-4-2T Locomotives
T.W.Worsdell introduced the 2-4-2T type to the Great Eastern Railway (GER) in 1884 from his previous employer, the London & North Western Railway (LNWR). These GER Class M15 (LNER F4) locomotives were designed for working branch and suburban passenger services.

These read - "LNER - during the war of 1939-1945 this locomotive was armoured and hauled defence trains on coast lines". [4] Thirty-seven F4s and all of the F5s, including 7218 and 7219 (ex-7789 and 7790), passed into British Railways (BR) ownership in 1948. Their BR numbers were: Class F4: 67151-67187.

One of these designs was for the 2-4-2T Class A (LNER F8) which was intended to replace the "Bogie Tank Passenger" G6 0-4-4T as the current NER passenger tank locomotive. The F8 had radial tanks, and was really a slightly larger version of the F4 s which he had previously designed for the Great Eastern Railway (GER).

Frankly, because of the similarities they could have all been classified F4 with subclasses: M15 > F4, M15R > F4/1, M15R with G69 cabs F4/2 and G69 F4/3. The J67/68/69 classification was even more of a pickle; two distinct classes, the R24R and S56 were lumped together under J69.
