
LNER Encyclopedia: The Hill J68 (GER Class C72) 0-6-0T Locomotives
Designed by Hill, the Great Eastern Railway's (GER) Class C72s (LNER J68) were the final development of Holden's original 0-6-0Ts of 1886. A total of three batches of ten locomotives each were built in 1912, 1913-14, and 1923.

The GER Class C72 was a class of thirty 0-6-0 T steam locomotives designed by A. J. Hill for the Great Eastern Railway. They passed to the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) at the 1923 grouping and received the LNER classification J68.

This is a very detailed kit with a lot of small fittings, pipework, cab interior detail and a representation of slidebars between the frames. The instructions are very comprehensive with a written text describing the building step by step to complement the exploded drawings. I recommend my own 1833 motor and 40/1 gear set.

The J68 was a Hill development of the J69 the distinguishing feature being the side window cab. Introduced in 1912-1914 with a further batch in 1923, in all 30 were built. The first batch of 10 were built for passenger working in the London area and were fitted with Westinghouse brakes.
