The LS5/9 was designed by the BBC Research Department and manufactured under licence by Rogers. Production started circa 1983, and continued well into the '90s. It was intended to be used in locations where the much larger LS5/8 would be inappropriate.

The LS5/9 has a more upfront presentation like you’re sitting closer to the band – perhaps because they’re a studio monitoring speaker.
