5 天之前 · To address PIER's question about the lower horsepower engine, the answer is both fuel savings and maintenance. Its an over-simplification but tractive effort (a function of weight on drivers) gets a train moving, while horsepower accelerates it to speed.

1 天前 · The EMD's and C425's seem to be populating the new Saginaw Bay Southern division of the LSRC. The MLW420 #3575 had been designated a parts souce when it arrived on LSRC property. The four C425's were healthy last I knew, at least one of which has been converted to AC traction. These are the #181, #281, #381 and #1280.

LSRC 1280-381 are referred to as both C424's and C425m's (derated to 2000hp). My questions is does someone know if they were 424's or 425's before rebuilding? Based on what I know about the difference between the two those are ex-C424's. The extrusion above grill at the rear of the long hood is how you tell them apart.

Engine #1280 is a C425M-AC model. This is a short diesel powered side trip which is part of the "Timberliner" excursion using the Pere Marquette 2-8-4 #1225 steam locomotive. It ran from Kawkawlin to Grayling, MI. Locomotive #1225 is being prepared while waiting for the passenger consist for the trip back to Kawkawlin.
