This is caused by the pressure and flow across the pump varying as the pressure across the heart chamber changes. You can hear this variation if you listen with a stethoscope or ear on the chest.

From what I have noticed, at least with my experience so far, is that if my PI is high then my flow is reading low. Since you mentioned you were prescribed medication to lower PI, what is your flow level around.

2013年7月15日 · Hi, my dad has an Lvad. I was just curious if anyone could share with me why lvad patients have pi events. Do pi events only occur when the pump is trying to suction the heart? Or are there other reasons? I notice that after he has one his pump power will go higher than usual to get his speed back up. Which makes sense but it still scares me.

2020年4月8日 · I too have heartmate 3 and have many low flow alarms I have kept my team informed also PI runs high 8-9-10 range it was 11 one time and I called them . I had a right heart Cath. in December at my 1 year birthday my team works closely with the Cleveland Clinic and they told me they ( the clinic ) are aware but don't have a solution as yet .

I contacted some friends in England who were spear heading the Heartmate 3 in Manchester and they gave me a few recommendations. 1. Fluid balance 2. maybe there is an arrhythmia going on 2. the LVAD space is smaller than normal? 3.timing of blood pressure meds.

2017年10月5日 · Difficult question to answer as it seems to fluctuate quite a lot. For me I also run Heartmate 3 at 5500 rpm. Early mornings I can be like 3.6 flow and as high as 7.5 pi. Later in the day this will normalize more like 4.2 flow and 5.6 pi. My doctor states I'm so low in the mornings due to just getting out of bed.

His PI pressure drops to 2.5. he was discharged from hospital on a Friday and went back on Saturday after passing out at home. now they are tweaking his meds an trying new meds..
