La Perla is a neighborhood located in Old San Juan, just between the famous San Cristobal and El Morro forts. La Perla is a community located on the ocean in Old San Juan. It’s east of the Santa Maria Magdalena de Pazzis cemetery and nests between the Atlantic Ocean and Norzagaray street.

La Perla is located right between the forts of San Cristobal and El Morro, two of the most significant historic landmarks, part of the San Juan National History Site. Both tourists and residents of Puerto Rico are curious about the neighborhood, for some it causes discomfort.

Go back up into the heart of La Perla and visit one of the chinchorros, or small rustic bars. La 39 is one of the most popular since on Sunday evenings they play live music and people from Old San Juan come down to dance. Next door is the Carmelo Anthony basketball court, donated by the NBA star in 2010.
