Laax (German: [laːks]; Romansh: Lags, pronounced [laks]) is a municipality in the Surselva Region in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. Laax is first undoubtedly mentioned c. 1290–98 as Lags. [3]

It was one of the world’s first ski areas to embrace the freestyle skiing and snowboarding movement and is today considered the Granddaddy of the sport.

The town of Laax is a rural municipality of 1,900 people composed of several villages in the Surselva valley of Graubunden in Switzerland. Its principal attractions are skiing in the winter, and hiking and mountain biking in the summer.
