She was (originally) Bloodhair's seer/woman and happened to be one crazy, evil and power-hungry bitch who preyed on the fears and superstitions of men. She certainly preyed on Uhtred's and it had an impact on the decisions that he made. That, and her role in causing division among the Danes, was the point of her character.
