2018年3月18日 · Here is an image of LBN 777 - sometimes known as the Vulture Nebula. North is down in this image (I couldn't help myself given the shape of the nebula). The back of the vulture's head" is the dark nebula Barnard 207. It is also cataloged as (approximately) LDN 1491, Dobashi 4288, and TGU H1144.

2025年2月24日 · LBN 777 (DG 26, LBN 775, the Baby Eagle nebula and others) is considered a reflection nebula. Several dark nebulae surround LBN 777 including Barnard 207, LDN 1489, 1491 and others. The whole field includes Barnard 208 and 209, LDN 1498, 1499 and more.

The central molecular cloud in the frame is cataloged as LBN 777 in Lynds' Bright Nebula Catalog and has a size of approximately 20 arcminutes. When the eastern side of the photo (the left) is oriented upward, the nebula resembles the head of a bird facing left, leading to its nickname, the "Vulture-Head Nebula".

With the new Astrodon filters you can see exactly why this nebula is called the "Baby Eagle Nebula". It is so clear and distinct to see. The beak, everything extremely clear. PixInsight processing includes registration and stacking the sub exposures, creating the RGB image, gradient repair, the initial non-linear stretching with HistogramTransformation and MaskedStretch. The stars were slightly dimmed with MorphologicalTransformation to better show the fainter areas of the nebula.

LBN 777 is a portion of the large cloud of dust and gas known as the Taurus Molecular Cloud. The brownish color is caused by large dust grains embedded in the gas. The dust reflects the light of the stars inside and near the nebula. The image was generated with observations in B (blue), V (green) and I (red) filters.
