Two cometary nebulae are seen at the center of LDN 43. The first, GN 16.31.7, is the brightest yellow object at center, lit up by the hidden young star RNO 91. Slightly above and left is the 2nd cometary nebula, GN 16.31.3, lit up by RNO 90. The small galaxy seen below LDN 43, just to the left of a bright orange star, is LEDA 3868080.

Snaking across the starfields of the constellation Ophiuchus, LDN 43 is an obscure dark nebula and star forming region that contains the embedded reflection nebulae RNO 90 and RNO 91, which are illuminated by young stellar objects (YSO).

2020年8月21日 · The bright nebula LBN 7 is the largest object in this image comprised of material reflecting starlight. Within it is the dark nebula LDN 43 (which comes in parts LDN43, B, D, and E) - its material is dense - blocking the light from background stars. Within this dark nebula are two cometary nebulae (GN 16.31.3 and GN 16.31.7).

2023年8月17日 · It really does look like a bat, and hence its name, The Cosmic Bat Nebula. This dark nebula, LND 43, is located in the constellation of Ophiuchus. It is obscuring a larger bright nebula behind it, LBN 7. LBN 7 is the illuminated dust surrounding the dark nebula.
