LIRR #226 LI City wave scheme no plow: LIRR C420's Status: In early 1976 through 1977, the Delaware and Hudson found itself with an ever increasing need for extra motive power. This was due to the newly aquired trackage rights that was brought on by the formation of Conrail.

#211 is a C420 built by the American Locomotive Company in April of 1964 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. In this context, it's powering a six-car passenger train. LI 211 climbs the grade behind Syosset High School with an off-peak consist, very likely a Smithtown turn. The first two cars are the familiar P54 ping pong coaches.
