Apr 27, 2011 · I'm shooting a sorority's formal banquet at a hotel soon, and I'm thinking of getting a backdrop/red carpet setup going. All I have in terms of lighting is a Canon Speedlite 580, so I'm assuming I'll need to rent either a softbox/umbrella, or possibly rent an extra light and light stand.

Aug 18, 2011 · In order to evenly illuminate your subject from head to foot you are going to need some fairly large light sources. Tall softboxes, large umbrellas (try 2 together, feathered so as not to get a hot spot: difficult though) or a large parabolic. (All assuming you don't want to use speedlights, with a bit of care, it can be done.)
