The LINX device is surgically implanted around the lower end of the esophagus. It is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in patients who continue to have GERD symptoms despite the use of medical therapy (acid pills such as proton pump inhibitor medications) for the treatment of their reflux.

LINX ™ is a small, flexible ring placed around the lower esophagus, right above the opening to the stomach. The LINX Reflux Management System is a medical device for patients 21 years and older who have been diagnosed with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and continue to have heartburn or regurgitation, despite taking medication to treat GERD.

The LINX procedure corrects a weak esophageal valve to prevent acid reflux from occurring. The LINX device, which looks like a small, stretchy bracelet, is placed around the lower esophagus through small incisions in the abdomen. General Precautions: The LINX device is a long-term implant. Explant (removal) and replacement surgery may be indicated at any time. Management of adverse reactions may include explantation and/or replacement. The use of the LINX device in patients with a hiatal hernia larger than 3 cm should include hiatal hernia repair to reduce the hernia

In recent years, a new technique known as magnetic sphincter augmentation (MSA) has been developed using the Linx™ Reflux Management System. This is an implantable ring of magnetic beads that is placed around the esophagus at the gastroesophageal junction to restore lower esophageal integrity.
