Things likely changed a lot when Caroline became headmaster and i hope the vampires got a choice between human and animal blood.

The vampire blood must be running through their system when she was pregnant with them, so it's probably that the vampire blood stay in their body or they create vampire blood themselves but it is not powerful enough to heal/turn someone else other than themselves.
