An LNB, or Low Noise Block downconverter, is a the small box on an arm that points toward the center of a satellite dish. It receives the signal and sends it to the satellite receiver box that connects to your television.

A low-noise block downconverter (LNB) is the receiving device mounted on satellite dishes used for satellite TV reception, which collects the radio waves from the dish and converts them to a signal which is sent through a cable to the receiver inside the building.

The big, round, “dish” part of your dish acts as a lens, focusing as much signal as possible onto the LNB. The LNB amplifies that signal and sends it down the cable. There are other functions, too, but they’re not as important as receiving the signal.
