The Loire 46 was a French single-seater fighter aircraft of the 1930s. A high-winged monoplane designed and built by Loire Aviation, it was purchased by the French Air Force. It was also supplied to the Spanish Republican forces during the Spanish Civil War, but was almost out of service by the outbreak of World War II.

The series Loire 46 was armed with four 7.5mm Darne machine guns to replace the 20mm Oerlikon cannons, in order to protect the wing structure. In the use, the aircraft of healthy piloting, was penalized by the lack of reliability of the engine Gnôme-Rhône, what limited the duration of the flights and requireda strengthened maintenance.

Le Loire 46 était un avion de chasse français de l' entre-deux-guerres. Appareil de transition, il ne fit qu'une courte carrière dans l' Armée de l'Air. Il fut utilisé par l' aviation républicaine espagnole au début de la Guerre d'Espagne. Le programme des chasseurs monoplaces de 1928 n’ayant pas donné satisfaction, il fut réactualisé en 1930.

With an open cockpit and a big radial engine up front, the Loire 46 resembled many biplanes of the era, and performed similarly, only with one wing. Initially the Loire 46 packed quite a punch, with two 20mm cannons in the prototype.
