The General Certificate of Education (GCE) is a subject-specific family of academic qualifications used in awarding bodies in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Crown dependencies and a few Commonwealth countries.

Examination boards in the United Kingdom (sometimes called awarding bodies or awarding organisations) are the examination boards responsible for setting and awarding secondary education level qualifications, such as GCSEs, Standard Grades, A Levels, Highers and vocational qualifications, to students in the United Kingdom.

The GCE A Level replaced the GCE Advanced Level qualification, and was first awarded in summer 2002. It is a two-year modular programme of study, with students initially being enrolled onto the Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level in the first year, before proceeding to the A Level in the second year (sometimes called the A2).

The Library holds the exam papers for all examinations conducted by the Central University and for the examinations conducted by the former University of London Examination and Assessment Council. The Council conducted School and Higher School Certificate examinations, GCE ‘O’ Level and ‘A’ Level examinations and GCSE and CSE examinations.

For a candidate to go in for Ordinary Level Examination, he/she must have completed a five-year program in the Secondary School level. He / She is allowed to go in for at least four Ordinary Level Subjects and at most eleven subjects, but the 11 th subject must be Religious Studies.
